Modern Leaside

Modern Leaside

What can you do with a 30 foot wide lot? The latest Modern house design by Jesse Sahlani is a great example. Located in Leaside, this home was designed with the famous coastal homes of Carmel by the sea in mind! A light limestone finish mimicking the natural sun bleaching, and grasses native to the area were specific details Jesse deeply enjoyed including in the design and landscape design plans for this stunning residence.

While size may have been sacrificed (just less than 150sq/ft) for proportions, we believe this decision was totally worth it as it gave way to a dramatic roof overhang, a highly defined massing that gave way to a modern glass corner, and visual depth that is sure to stand the test of time. Lower level overhangs are the perfect position for green roofs, as well as seasonal decorations with access to power and water.

The interior of this quaintly modern home utilizes a creamy white palette to create a sense of increased space. Jesse was intent on utilizing his small space planning experience to create a design that offered a level of functionality in the space that most 3,000-3,500 homes have to offer. While this home stands around the 2,500 square foot mark, it is able to offer a full kitchen table featuring banquette seating, a full dining room, a large entertaining kitchen, a cellar with climate controlled storage for up to 200 bottles, a mudroom with coat storage and a small bench seating area, and a fireplace that serves to separate the space without compromising the connection between them in an entertaining setting. On the second floor, this home includes four bedrooms for this growing family, along with functional walk in closets and built-in desks for each child’s room.
