The Glass Corner was a concept developed by Jesse Sahlani for a client who wanted to create a truly modern and opulent home that will stand out compared to the grand and traditional homes in the prestigious Hoggs Hollow neighborhood. Using the unique topography, Jesse took the opportunity to create two architecturally significant faces, and a unique footprint, for this home that sits on a curved corner lot.
The use of energy modeling allows for windows to line close to fifty percent of the exterior walls including a curtain wall that wraps around the full height grand foyer, and second floor bedrooms, creating a highly modern and refined aesthetic. Textures play off one another where the stark smooth glass and composite aluminum abut diamond cut natural slate, wood slat siding and limestone. The result is a thoughtfully proportioned and timelessly finished architectural piece.
As always, Jesse’s high degree of consideration for the suns positions in relation to the time of highest use for each room optimizes our design process to maximize natural light. This approach also allows for the refinement of exterior details in later phases to ensure that overhangs, and window sizes or positions don’t impede on the initial sunlight strategy. The result is an interior that features four sun filled bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and walk in closets, a main floor full height great room with direct access to the exterior entertainment area, an expansive two storey foyer including a marble staircase, and a wealth of unique cabinetry features and ceiling details that offer indirect ambient lighting throughout the home. Health and wellness were also a strong consideration for these clients, and to support this, a gym with a change room for trainers and friends, a dry sauna, and a post workout relaxation room are included in the plans.
The exterior landscape design was designed in a Miami pool party fashion and includes a large pool, tanning area, outdoor kitchen, jacuzzi, firepit lounge, and dining area. The exterior flooring selected features a combination of light cedar composite decking, paired with large format limestone interlocking stone that is accented by turf inserts, strategically placed beech trees, and an extensive exterior lighting plan. The luxurious end result of this design will characterize both the interior spaces, all while offering a unique entertainment space and amenities that will make it hard to leave the house
