Contemporary Japanese Prarie Home

Jesse designed the Modern Prairie home through a highly contemporary lens, blending the classic prairie style with clean modern elements, timelessly updating this century old design style for the better. In classic Prairie design style, the home is an L shape which takes advantage of this large lot and allows the overall appearance to be long and relatively low, while the facade, composing of nearly 65% windows, including several corner window features that were strategically placed to maximize natural light, unquestionably connect the structure to the nature around it. The roof, composed of shallow hipped roof line, hallmark to the prairie style, also features a unique and modern “knife edge” soffit detail that incorporates the eavestrough into the roof truss system, which helps to mute the height of the structure while bringing modern and minimal visual interest to the exterior facade.

In classic Jesse Sahlani and Sensus Design Studio style, keen attention to detail is paid to the rear facade where the asymmetrical and open design sets the tone for the exterior entertaining area. The rear facade has just as many large windows as the front which creates a restrained opulence, with an open and airy feel, connecting the interior and exterior spaces of the home, while the strategic positioning of the home allows for up to 12 hours of natural daylight.

The exterior landscape design plan for this home was focused on the creation of a luxurious resort setting with lush surroundings. The lot is filled with lots of mature trees so we had the easy job of complementing the existing beauty that surrounds the plot with accent trees including a combination of beaches, hedging beaches, and tall grasses. The backyard plan features a pool and tanning area, a full pool house that doubles as a covered entertainment area, and a covered loggia that can be enclosed and heated during the winter months giving the home a four season connection to nature around it.

We can’t wait to release the interior design plan for this unique custom home Toronto that is starting construction in the fall of 2023!
